there like little... and they are like on the top theres usually 3 or just 1... and if you pour water in them.. they smell kinda odd?! but the never seen to pass water?!

if you put the stopper in the sink and then keep the water running, its so it doesn't over flow and make a mess if you accidentally forget.
They are there as an overflow drain. This is so you don't overflow the sink if you leave the water running.
