I have wanted one for a very long time, and actually might go through w/ it at some time haha BUT i want to know more about this before i get it done.
Do you have an alarm system set up in your house? I have seen that happen to where the alarm needs attention. If you have an alarm system it is probably tied in with your smoke detectors. Call your alarm company.
Why would you be worried about him thinking that you're hiding something if you're not? Just say no next time. Police officers cannot search without consent if they don't have a warrant, right?
If you give permission for him to search your car he can tear it to pieces and will not have any liability. The law protects you against illegal search and seizure. Legally he must have a warrant so without a warrant he needs your permission or it's illegal. So it's in your hands. A cop once wanted to search my car and tried to intimidate me into it. I don't get intimidated easily and I happened to know my rights. He had no leg to stand on when he realized he couldn't trick me. I think he just wanted to play Barney Fife anyway b/c there was no reason for him to suspect anything.
Never allow a pig to search you or your vehicle. I hate to say it, but you gave that thing permission you deserve what you got.
