Question:

What boiler would be the best to power large old cast iron radiators in a large house.?

My family and I just recently purchased a fairly large house set in a farm which has about 9bedrooms i noticed in the house it has large cast iron radiators which if i can power would keep because they look attractive and are solid cast iron also in good condition, the rads are about 4/5feet wide by 1feet in width theres about 5/6 in the property i was just wondering if modern day boilers would be powerful enough to power these rads if so which one should we use and which to recommend would be very grateful i done some research and it seems the rads are called chubby princess radiators. Thankyou

Answer:

Contact a heating contractor in your area and have the system analyzed. The boiler must be big enough to supply adequate heating ability to your home. The square footage will have to be measured to determine the BTUs necessary. If the system is old, you'll want to be sure that there are no leaks, that all radiators are capable of operating, and that the system is adequate for your comfort level. Different types, styles, sizes, and ages of boilers make a real difference, and you will want to only do this job ONCE. Properly sized and installed, a boiler can provide years of carefree comfort for your family. Improperly done, you will face added expense, discomfort, and years of misery. Just this once, don't listen to your friends and neighbors, contact a professional. Those old radiators could have all kinds of rust, hard water, leaking, sludge, and flow problems. Do it right the first time. AL
It's no longer so much the variety of boiler you must worry about but extra the output, the BTU or KW enter and or output will have to be stamped in your present boiler, customarily on the inside of the casing, and you need to be certain your new boiler suits this. As already mentioned you ought to flush the approach out to get rid of the magnetite and sludge, this is prompted via a mixing of the distinct metals in the procedure and oxygen within the water, there are other motives however a certified heating engineer can be able to investigate the procedure out and rectify something it was once that was once inflicting your present boiler to 'clog' up
