Question:

What color curtains will go best with my red sofas?

I just moved into a studio apartment. I bought red sofas and my walls are painted a light yellow color. I have two big windows and I need window treatments because people driving by can see inside. What color curtains will go with my sofas? Or should I get blinds instead? Also should I get a rug? What color?

Answer:

I think cream, navy blue or really light green curtains would go well with the other colors and i've always liked checkered rugs. :)
Any chance you could find something that's a similar shade of red to post? If they're bright red I'd say pick something that's a very bland color, to tone down the effect of the red/yellow a bit, a grey with a nice pattern (one that has small touches of a similar shade of red would look nice) or a white (with the same).
Curtains are warmer than blinds, so if you live in a cold climate you might want curtains. Since your walls are a light yellow, you might try matching the curtains to the walls; that should give your room a feeling of space as well. Yes, definitely, get a rug (unless you have beautiful hardwood floors!); a rug will help muffle sounds and provide a feeling of warmth and home. Your rug can pick up the colors in your curtains or your sofa, whichever you prefer. Good luck with your new apartment!
I'd like to see a soft gray with your yellow walls red sofas, so I hope you can find a rug with yellow, red gray in it. (Check Penney's website - tons of rugs) Your rug should be at least 5x7 in your seating area. You can do a layered look add blinds underneath...that way you only need side panels of drapery or sheer (for softness) on a decorative rod. I would choose a natural woven roman shade in a warm yellow tone to add texture blend with your yellow walls. Check Lowe's for great prices on these.
Match okorder / Make the tiebacks your self...head to a thrift store and find beautiful beading in the costume jewlery then add a tassle or cascade more beads down. Even old large dangly earrings make great tassels.
