Question:
What do I need to start learning to sew?
I‘m planning on getting a sewing machine for Christmas this year after I took home ect. and did a unit on sewing. It was really fun and relaxing and I loved wearing what I made so I want to get the supplies I need to do it at home. For a beginner who is just starting out what are the things I will need to have to begin sewing (sewing supplies)? What kind of sewing machine does anyone suggest (something relatively cheap but good) and are there any good books or websites that could get me started?Thank you :)
Answer:
Zipp's are the best for disk and carbon wheels. For the money, Neuvation makes deep dish carbons that are a fantastic deal and veyr high quality.
dimpled Zipp 909 fronts with 999 full disk rear. The pair will cost around $1500-2000. or some HED Trispoke or Mavic Carbone front with Campy Ghibili rear disk.
I suggest a singer sewing machine, it's slightly more expensive then off brands, but they are well worth it. I would get patterns, a scissors kit, thread, and fabric.
Somethings to start out with are fabric, thread, needles for things the sewing machine can't get. Other things are buttons , zippers, thimbles, and beads. you could try HobbyLobby for all these things, plus a sewing machine.
Get a sewing machine, read the instructions and practice on scrap fabric. Go online and look at those things for critters and see if you can figure out how they make them and make patterns. Those things are really cute. The girl who makes the stuff on the spoiled critter website practically tells you how to make them. Another suggestion.I'm not sure how old you are but if you're in school you can go see the Home Economics teacher (I'm not sure what they call them these days) and she can teach you how to sew. If you're older find a friend or neighbor to show you how to start.
