Answer:

The air-activated heat pads are the best! Just place them on top of your socks and you'll have warm toes all dayI use them for skiing and triathlons too, after swimming in cold water; sometimes my feet go numb on the bike and with the warmers they always stay warm I have poor circulation in my feet and that's usually the first part of my body that gets coldThey also work great as hand warmers.

first thing you can get heated soles for your boots but if you dont want to pay for that than you can get heavy weight smart wool socks
really thin cotton dress socks or no socks, just a very light layer of talcam powderyou'll get more control on your skiis and the circulation in your feet won't be so restrictedIf your feet are freezing at -20, your boots aren't fitting rightI've skied over 1000 days in the Canadian Rocky/Selkirk/Coastal mountains and my hands always froze before my feet.
man I feel you I had my boots moldeed to my feet and I can't wear socks with themmost days I don't notice but every now and again the toes go numbI like wig wam socks they arethinnner but good also check out the da kine brand ski socks they are thin but seem to work well
