Question:

What does a two ring elevator bit do? Also, What does a loose ring copper snaffle do?

I'm trying to find a bit for the flat and a bit for jumping. I found some old pictures from the previous owner. It seems that she wore a copper snaffle with a loose ring and for jumping she use a two ring elevator bit. What do they do?

Answer:

Just use the recommended type and pump it through till only new, clean fluid comes out. You'll get a lot less mixing if you can suck all the old fluid out of the reservoir and refill it with new before you start bleeding.
All good answers, sofar, except for draining it dry. You cpould, but you don't want air in the sysytem either. Flush the new fluid through until you are certain all the old is out.
Just drain it dry and start over.
Any bit that has copper in it is meant to increase salivation, this makes the bit work better in a horses mouth. If you decide to get a loose-ring then make sure to get bit guards. As for the elevator(dutch gag)it is a leverage bit. You can use one rein on one of the lower rings and this will always put pressure on the horses mouth and poll when pressure is applied.(It's a leverage bit), if you use two reins(which I recommend) you put one on the largest ring which is the one that is directly linked to the bars of the bit. Then the other on one of the lower rings, this gives you the option to use leverage. So you can mainly ride using the snaffle rein and if need be you can use the leverage rein. That's the best I can explain it.Good Luck!
