what does constant, inverse operations, and additive inverse mean in 8th grade math terms. :)?
Inverse somewhat means the opposite. The inverse of addition is the opposite of addition which is subtraction (the opposite of adding 5 is subtracting 5). Subtraction undoes addition and vice versa. So they are inverse operations of each other. Another basic pair of inverse operations are multiplication and division. The opposite of multiplying by five is dividing by five. Other inverse operations: powers and roots (ie power of 2 (squaring) and square root are inverse operations) exponential functions and log functions derivitive and integral I'm sure there are others. Hope this helps.
What Does Additive Inverse Mean
A chi I have curly hair. it works wonders
Constant means something that does not change. For example, 3 is a constant, because 3 is always 3. The expression x + 5 is not a constant, because it changes depending on what the value of x is. Usually, when talking about expressions, constant just means that it's a number. Examples of constants include 3, 7, 11.578, 12/25, and pi. If you have discussed functions: you can also say a function is constant if it always outputs the same value no matter what its input is. For example, the function f(x) 7 is constant. Inverse operations are operations which, in a sense, undo each other. For example, multiplication and division are inverse operations. If I multiply something by 3 and then divide it by 3, I'll always get the same number back: 7 * 3 / 3 7 12 * 3 / 3 12 100 * 3 / 3 100 The same holds if I multiply then divide by any other number: 7 * 12 / 12 7 12 * 800 / 800 12 etc. Additive inverse just means the negative of a number. For example, the additive inverse of 7 is -7; the additive inverse of 12 is -12. Careful, though; the additive inverse of -5 is 5, because -(-5) 5. (The additive inverse of 0 is 0.) It is called the additive inverse because if you add a number to its additive inverse, they cancel each other out and you get zero: 7 + (-7) 0 12 + (-12) 0 -5 + 5 0 0 + 0 0. (This is the same sort of inverse meant in inverse operations--except instead of looking at an operation that undoes another operation, we're looking at a number which, when we add it to the original number, they cancel and we get zero.)
