In my Expos class we're doing metaphorical writing. So far I'm 2 body paragraphs in and the two things I've come up with are destruction and life. I need a third thing it represents. I was thinking passion but I think I kinda covered that in the life paragraph.

Otherwise, here is a thought: I once read in a British yachting magazine that if the lightning is to hit within a radius roughly equal to the height of your sailboat mast, it will hit it instead. I have sailed for half a century and been many times in a thunderstorm. It is never pleasant but the only time my mast was hit was when in the harbour! So, if you are in a place where whatever surrounds you is higher than the distance to it, you should be safe. Touching a tree trunk isn't a very good idea, though, because the lightning will travel outside the trunk and through you if you are in its path. Another lightning's urban legend is that metal attracts the lightning. It does not. But if something is hit by it, it will follow the easiest path to the ground, which is the metal part. The reason some buildings have lightning rods on the top is not to attract the lightning but to lead it fast to the ground if hit, thus preventing fire.

You have no phone and can't leave the house ? what kind of parent(s) do you have that don't buy you shoes and leave you in the house on your own with no way to contact them or other family etc. Yeah right mate. It's a bit of an elaborate excuse to make to stay off school.
Lightning is looking for the least resistant path to the ground. If you are in an open field, that could well be you, since you are a much better conductor of electricity than the air. Best to get away (if you can) from the open field while lightning is still in the distance. If you are in the woods, you don't want to be standing too close to the tallest tree near you, since you (along with the tree) might end up being part of the least resistant path. BTW, as long as cars have a metal frame, they are quite safe to be inside, because a metal frame is a far better conductor of electricity than your body.
