Question:

What does Ford use as stock trailer wire harness?

I broke the stock trailer wire harness on my 2004 Ford F150 XLT new body, and I'm trying to buy a replacement harness. I'm wondering if Ford uses a 7-pole round, or a 6-pole round. I don't do any camper pulling, mostly just pulling trailers for my snowmobiles and mid-size boats. What would be the more common, everyday plug, the 6 or the 7-pole round?

Answer:

Did it go close to the plug ? The factory just unplugs the standard wiring harness at a plug right in the back of the bed, adds in the trailer wiring harness. If the plug end is damaged, you can you crawl under the bed remove the added harness replace it.
The MAx Tow package uses the 7-pin as it supports electric brakes, needing only to have an electric brake controller installed in the cockpit. The bumper plug is actually a two piece assembly, if you study it. Mine got booger up and I was able to unplug the harness at the bumper plug and then purchase a new receptacle end.
