Question:

What does GE ac motor thermally protected use for?

my uncle had a GENERAL ELECTRIC/MARS Motor mod: 5KC49WG507X and I don't know what it is...can any one help explain this to me?

Answer:

Your uncle has a 1.5 hp motor that was originally intended for use with a pump or air handler. The thermal protection will shut down the motor if it is overloaded to the point where it overheats. The protection might reset automatically when the motor cools down, or it may have a reset button. A motor of that type typically sells for several hundred dollars. Don

To protect motor being burnt even caught fire by overheated due to overload or non stop running. It cut away input power feeds to the coil while it reaches its preset temperature.
