It leaks because over the last 16 years of heating up and cooling down gaskets, orings, bushings and hoses deteriorate and start to leak.
how much? when dose it do it hot or cold? check all your hose clamps bet one is a little lose. see if you can see any where its leaves a wet spot. if you cant could be a trains cooler in the radiator. could be the radiator top cap or bottom cap leaking ,,, really need more Information about it to tell you.
Do NOT use stop leak. It will clog the system doing more damage. You probably have a bad hose or perhaps a leaking radiator or heater core. Do a proper repair to cure the problem.
check your state laws about smoke detectors, especially in rentals, if they are required and they were not maintained, yes you can sue but if they were in the apt. and you were supposed to see to it they were active that is another matter
If it is only your radiator leaking, then you have a problem with the radiator, not freeze plugs, thermostat, etc. The best thing to do to determine where the leak is is to put a leak detector fluid in it. All this does is change the color of the coolant to make the leaking area easier to find. You can use stop leak to fix the problem for a short amount of time but I wouldn't suggest using it for very long so you don't cause other problems. Using it more than once or twice can eventually block up your heater core which is just a small radiator inside the dash that warms the incoming air for heat. Try the leak detector and see if you can find the leak, the best thing to do is replace whatever is leaking be it the radiator, hose or whatever.
