A dowel is a round piece of wood any length usually sold in a lumberyard in 2 or 4 foot lengths; and any diameter, in this case 1/4 inchcut the dowel to 3 1/4 long, sand one side flat a bit so it won't roll away, and on the opposite side of where you sanded, cut a groove with a knife, a chisel , a dremel (you get the idea) big enough to hold the nails you have preparedI definitely wouldn't do this in my hand, a bench vise is best, or you could clamp it to a table with a wood clamp, C clamp, or even vise gripsGood luck!
