veneti? germanic? celtic?
In the region Veneto lived two native tribes: the Euganei and the Ligurians. Then the paleoveneti came from central Europe, then some Celtic tribes, and they became friends with them and the Ancient Romans. Later the paleoveneti founded the city of Venice and the Serenissima Republic, and conquered great parts of Lombardy, Friuli, Trentino, Croazia, Dalmatia, Greek islands. The Serenissima was very strong and no one could invaded us, until after the discover of America they lost power and Napoleon Bonaparte conquered us. Later we were conquered by Austrians and became The kingdom of Lombardy and Venetia until we joined Italy.
The first population in this area was paleoveneti. Then celtics, then romans. Culturally, though, there is a great influence from Austria.
Paleoveneti originally settled in that area, they came from the Blakans or more likely from central Europe. Of course over the years they mixed with Romans, celtis (gauls) and probably had some slavic influences too, especially in the region Friuli, so there isn't a unique and distinct ethnic origin, also nowadays people from all over Italy live in Veneto
