What's Acrylic paint? How does it differ from an oil painting?
Acrylic paint is very bright and is wet for a while when put down on object. Oil paint is bold and dries almost immediately when put on a surface
There's a bit of convenience vs. performance issue. Acrylic: speed & nontoxicity. Oil: ability to blend, layer, subtle effects, and feel. A painter friend of mine suggested to me once that painting with acrylic is like painting with wet sand, while painting with oil paints is like painting with butter.
There isn't too much difference but Oil is obviously oil+pigment based, while Acrylic is more plastic+pigment based. Acrylic dries fairly quickly unless you use loads and finishes kind-of like plastic, but oil dries really slowly, like a week slowly! It dries with a dull finish which can be helped with varnish. Hope this helps :)
It is really just a matter of preference- Acrylic dries very quickly, sometimes too quickly. Oil takes much longer but you can get more precise lines with it (in my experience). Tempura is for little kids and it takes great skill to make watercolor look like anything but a third-grader's art work. Just try each of them out and see what you like! I recently switched from acrylic to oil and love it.
