Question:

What is a great town/village/city in Italy for an American to reside in who has very little Italian?

I‘d like a nice, metropolitan area where it‘s bustling and alive yet safe and clean to raise a family. Any suggestions?

Answer:

In Italy the quality of life is generally higher in mid-sized cities and it tends to decrease as you go from north to south. I would pick a city in the north or center, which is not far from larger cities: Treviso and Vicenza (close to Venice, not far from the Dolomites and the seaside!). Factories like Geox, Benetton and Luxottica have their HQ there, so chances jobwise are ok. An alternative could be Prato (close to Florence). I personally like a lot life and lifestyle in cities like Modena, Reggio Emilia or Ferrara, but the weather is not very nice in the Padan Valley: foggy in winter and hot and misty in Summer loads of mosquitoes. The same is true for Pavia. Also Places like Asti or Alessandria are nice. The area I originally come from can be very pretty too. I love Como and Varese: they are already in the pre-Alps, have beautiful lakes, are only 50 Km far from Milan (1hour by train if you're commuting) and few Km. away from Switzerland. Near Varese there is an important research centre of the European union where lots of foreign scientists work, hence you've got a good international school and a reasonable international community.
this question is old and you'd be lifeless or something yet i'm going to in elementary terms say this; the rationalization why Irish and Italians do not evaluate you Irish-American and Italian-human beings as certainly one of their very own for the reason which you in elementary terms HAVE THE ANCESTRY. each and every AMERICAN has a drop of each and every race available yet you do not hear them claiming to be, Polish, German, eastern, chinese language, Spanish, Scottish, etc. the only way an Italian or Irish will settle for you as a member is a million. You the two have the two mom and dad that are Irish/Italian or only one verify it truly is. 2. you have the two the two grandparents that are Irish/Italian or in basic terms have one grandparent it truly is and/or 3 3. Be BORN in eire and Italy and easily FREAKING recognize THE subculture love it truly is WRITTEN on the back OF YOUR HAND. i won't have the ability to tell you procedures a lot of those Italian-human beings make up phrases and get in touch with it Italian. they have no theory that real Italians are ashamed and disgusted of their habit. the comparable is going for the Irish. they don't choose to be linked with Irish-human beings who show satisfaction in Irish stereotypes. in assessment to those eu-American craps, i'm an somewhat newborn of a eu and have eu mom and dad. believe me, they say the suitable comparable concern that i'm asserting.
Northern Italy is probably the prettiest but I don't know how much english anyone speaks there. If you want more english, you'll need to live close to the American Air Base in Aviano. Never been so I can't speak to how metropolitan it is but I would think because there are more Americans there than most places in Italy then the surrounding shops and businesses would have picked up more english in order to do business with the Americans.
