Question:

What is a vehicle hoist?

I tried reading it out of the textbook, but I couldn't find it. We were dicussing this in class, and I want to know what it is, and how it works. I'm learing this in highschool, in science class by the way, it is related to Hydraulic Multiplication. Best answer gets 10 points. Thank You

Answer:

fhydraulic fluid, a liquid similar to brake fluid is pumped through metal and sometimes hard rubber lines to push a metal piston out through a cylinder, this is a hydraulic pump..a hoist is usually two hydraulic pumps one on each side of the vehicle and is used to lift the car in the air like at a mechanic shop to do repairs underneath the vehicle...if you've ever ridden past a muffler man and seen a car up in the air it is being held on a hoist lifted by hydraulic fluid under pressure, it is similar to pressing the brake pedal on a car, you could never squeeze the brakes hard enough to stop a car but through hydraulic multiplication it becomes an easy task...
