Question:

What is making my epoxy resin turn yellow?

Im making coasters and I use white sculpy clay then paint over with white spray paint to make a coaster. but when I glaze it over with with envirotex pour on epoxy resin the resin turns really yellowish. What can I do to prevent it from turing yellow? Do the chemicals in the paint or clay do this to epoxy resins? What can I do?

Answer:

I have been a plumber for over 20 years now, and I would use copper, although pex is easier to install and cheaper its still relatively new to the industry. Here we are about 10-15 years after bottled water became main stream and there is already talk of drinking from plastic bottles being harmful. Who knows what they will be saying about pex 15, 20 yrs from now, it just hasn't been studied long enough, or on the market long enough. I wouldn't want my family drinking, making ice, brushing teeth constantly from a new plastic product. But hey that's just one guys opinion
Sorry to be responding so late, you probably have a short-term solution by now. Sounds like you have an older system that is probably hard-wired (the sensors to the control box) and also uses your home phone line to communicate. You should be aware that most of the systems being installed today use wireless sensors, which are much easier to identify and trouble shoot - and the best systems no longer use a phone line to contact the monitoring center. When you go to upgrade your systems (and it sounds as if you could be due!), shop hard for the latest proven technology, which today can include the following features: 1) 100% cellular monitoring 2) Remote arm/disarm capability 3) Special apps for iPhone, Blackberry, Android, 4) Email test notifications on anything happening at eh home: doors opening, etc. 5) Video services - live viewing from any web connection (including phone) and motion-activated clips 6) Smart home - remote light and thermostat control Not every company offers these features, but the good ones do. Make sure you check out the on-line reputation of any company you consider. There are a few companies with consistently great reviews out there.
