I am currently taking early childhood care education as my college major. I am learning about ZPD (Zone of Proximal Development), and scaffolding the the development in early childhood. How would you explain, and define scaffolding?
umm I think it's like when a child develops a skill after a previous skill was developed. At least one of your textbooks should have a good example/definition. That's one of the top 10 terms you should know in ECE:)
scaffolding is when an educator provide different levels of support an feedback to meet children individual needs ,which allow them to perform at a higher level than they would independently. for example: educators scaffold by : 1. providing hints when children struggle to understand concepts. 2.offering range of answers to choose them from . 3. encouraging children to use an additional resources to help them understand concepts and ideas.
I think someone is being sarcastic and suggesting that you do some research to help you understand the term. However, sometimes it's hard to understand the definitions in text books. Maybe this will help: scaffolding is the support provided by adults working with a child to help promote and extend development of knowledge and skills. It can mean asking appropriate questions to help extend a child's thought process, or providing suitable activities to help a child learn through hands-on activities. Look it up in your textbook and read the definition and apply it to my explanation above for a deeper understanding, and don't be afraid to ask your instructor questions like this! That's what s/he is there for!
