Silica (chemical formula: SiO2) is an acidic oxide hydrate, corresponding silicate (H2SiO3). Silica insoluble in water, insoluble in acids, but soluble in hydrofluoric acid and hot concentrated phosphoric acid, capable of acting with molten bases.
