Question:

what is the cost of cement per square yard in 2013?

I am getting a cement porch build on the back of my house. I am interested in knowing what is the cost or average cost of a 12 feet by 10 feet porch being build. They will use bricks, mold the cement slab on top, and make a 4 feet sidewide walk to my garage from the steps. The porch will be 2 feet high from the ground.

Answer:

Have you considered calling a company or two for some prices for a porch that is 120 sq. ft and walk that measures so long ...
Cement is an ingredient in concrete, it is not something you use to build a porch. Concrete is sold by the cubic yard, not the square yard. There are hundreds of concrete calculators on the internet that you can put in how long, how wide and how deep and it will tell you how many cubic yards you need. Whatever it says, you will need that amount plus 1 cubic yard. Concrete in 2013 costs between $85 and $150 a cubic yard, depending on location and amount purchased.
Firstly you need concrete not cement, secondly the world has gone metric since last you checked, thirdly, it would be cubic yards not square yards if yards were still in use. And lastly 12 feet = 3.66 m, 10 feet = 3.05 m and you'd need it 4 thick which = .101 m so, 3.66 x 3.05 x 0.101565 = 1.133770095 M? If you were able to buy 1.133770095 M? because big companies don't sell .133770095 of a cubic meter, only small companies with little trucks do and it would probably be .5 of a cubic meter. So use $90 per cubic meter as a ballpark figure, but this will vary by region. Also, expect a fee of about $60 per load for delivery. There could be other fees for such things as Saturday delivery and small loads. Ask about these fees so you know the total bill before the truck arrives. I would say $200 + or - $50 depending where you live and regional prices
