Question:

what is the difference between a light beer and a not light beer?

whats different about light beer?

Answer:

Light beer is meant to be lighter in taste than regular beer. It has nothing to do with alcohol content or calorie content.
Light beer is lighter in alcohol, calories and flavor. It's a waste in my opinion...I enjoy drinking beer for its flavor. If people would just exercise a little and not eat like crap, they wouldn't gain weight from moderate drinking.
light beer is gross and not light beer is delicious...seriously, light beers are lighter bodied (watered-down) and less flavorful...and despite an answer to the contrary most light beers are lower calorie, but not always lower alcohol.
Light beer has fewer calories. It contains the same percentage of alcohol as regular beer has, but is supposedly less fattening. In my experience, light beer tastes a little bit watered down.
A light beer must have 124* or fewer calories per 12oz serving. A regular beer has 125 or more... sometimes WAY more... I mean in the 500's more... Sorry, got off subject. Light beers were first introduced in the 1960's as Gablinger's Diet Beer by Rheingold Brewery and was marketed to women. It was later purchased by Miller and marketed Lite by miller, eventually becoming Miller Lite in the 1980's. Typically, do to having less calories light beer will be lighter in flavor also. This has lead many Americans to dislike beer, thinking it bitter, bland and fowl tasting. Regular, full flavored beer averages roughly 140-160 calories per serving and has much more flavor than it's light counterparts. *Interestingly enough Guinness which is often thought of as thick, heavy and high in alcohol is only 4.2% ABV and missed being a light beer by 1 calorie... 125 calories per 12oz serving.
