what is the difference between cement and mortar?
Cement is the mixture of anhydrous minerals which, when combined with water, makes hydrated crystals which hold everything together. Mortar has sand added, as a filler to lower the cost of holding bricks in place and lime, which gives the mortar a little flexibility so that expansion and contractor of the brick with temperature variations does not cause the mortar to crack apart and fall out.
