sofa as in a sofa is another word for couch. So is another word for very so very far as in very far away. OR so far could be an indication of time. As in so far, I have not cleaned my room so far meaning as of now
Sofa ends in a 'u' sound, like when you're thinking and you say, uh... Far ends with an 'o' type sound as in the word 'octopus' followes by an 'r' sound, as in red. You could remember by always doing the 'sof...' part, but for 'sofa' just say 'uh' after it and for 'so far' just say the name of the letter 'r' but be sure not to pause inbetween the sounds in order to sound more authentic. Additionally, it might have help if you had said what your native language is so that I could have compared the sounds to your native language.
Sofa the emphasis is on the first syllable eg. SO-fa. So far you accent the second syllabe so-FAH (extend the final syllable)
As far as the sounds go, so-fa (the couch) can sound a lot like so far (the two words). In fact, in lots of British English, the 'r' sound is not pronounced on the end (which makes them sound very similar or identical). In most of American English, there is a clear 'r' sound on the end of 'so far'... so in American English it is easy for us to tell the difference between the two. Work hard on hearing the 'r' sound at the end of words when it is there and pronounced.
