I installed a hot water heater over the weekend and used the stainless steel flexible tubes with compression fittings to copper piping.
Lightning is extra electrons from the air, and they make a path, and they hit the closest/best thing they can reach. Closest, means they need less energy to jump (make the path) so its easier for it to happen, so lightning rods protect building by being tall. Other reason is they are usually better than buildings. By better I mean, that electrons are negatively charged, and they are attracted to positive charges, and get pushed from other electrons, so I would think that lightning rods are slightly positively charged. Maybe other reasons, look it up, but this is the basics. P.S. Lighting is cause because there are too many electrons pushing each other in the clouds. They push so hard, that some jump down all the way to the ground.
