Question:

What is the metal disk at the switch of the kettle?

What is the metal disk at the switch of the kettle?

Answer:

The metal plate at the switch of the kettle is a bimetallic thermostat.
Bimetallic plate, also called hot bimetal, is a relatively simple automatic control element for temperature control. The two kinds of metal sheets with different expansion and contraction rates are welded together by two kinds of metal sheets through special welding process, and the two metal sheets are made into double metal sheets.
Because the two kinds of sheet metal thermal expansion rate is different, when the temperature rises, the bimetal sheet metal in thermal expansion and contraction rate of small side bending; when the temperature is decreased, the bimetal thermal expansion rate toward the side of the big bend sheet metal. The bimetallic sheet acts side by side with the temperature change, drives the transmission mechanism of the temperature control switch, and causes the contact of the temperature switch to break or close, so as to achieve the purpose of cutting off or connecting the circuit.
