an aluminum atom loses three electrons?
my self i;d use the foam insulation.but either one should work.insulation is;nt suppose to burn.so both are safe to use.any questions call your fire marshall see what he thinks.
i would go with the fiberglassi know it wont get too hotbut then againive never used foam insulation on hot pipes.
First, why is the pipe still hot if the system is turned off? Second, I would go with the thicker or harder insulationFiberglass is meant to trap air and prevent it from percolating from one area to another, but it would appear from your problem you need to apply some kind of harder cover (that you can remove sometime in the future should you need to)Plumbing depts carry a black insulated tube that has a slit all along the length and comes in standard diameters, but usually in preset lengths like three feet or soYou just open one end, force the pipe into it and continue on until you put another piece on itFinally, if the pipe is really not all that long and you want to do it on the cheap, buy a can of the spray crack filler and apply a coat over itMessy, watch how fast it comes out and expands, but effectiveCan be sort of chiseled off later should you need to, and balance of what is on will come off with a large grit sandpaper (wear a dust mask).
It sounds like the shut off valve needs repair, you don't say whether steam or hot waterAre you trying to block off the radiator and pipes or just the pipes? I think the fibre glass would be cheaper, and better for radiatorsThey both do the same thing and are equally safe and trap air inside the insulation to keep the pipes warm .I think the foam will break down with time from the heatThe foam is better for cold water pipes as it doesn't absorb moisture on cold water pipes during the summerSo foam for cold and fibreglass for the hotIf the radiator is still getting hot after the valve if in the off position you can slip some fibreglass behind it to help stop the air from passing through it .
First response is correct as far as it goes; the sulfur atom is called sulfideAluminum retains the original name.
