On your car, the lock connects the key to a ignition switch, mounted on the column. Are you sure that the switch isn't your problem. Could the lock cylinder be turning a bad switch ? The switch the lock turns, makes accessories go on and off. Sure the lock is damaged, but it sounds like the switch is damaged too. Locking the column is a lever or pin that pops in and out. With the key in the lock, you might have to remove the steering wheel to release the lock. Have you looked at the proper directions to remove the lock ? Some times the steering column gets damaged and lock won't come out. Someone hit it with a hammer, maybe ? Who knows. I'd seriously consider replacing the column. Get the whole thing at a junk yard, key and all. It isn't real hard to replace a steering column. A lock smith can only pop a lock for you, if the column is damaged, he can't help you repair it.
