A helmet wont do much for you thoughif youve managed to squish your head in a car, likely chances are the rest of you was squished too, thus making that pointlessAlso even with a helmet you can still sustain head injuries, they are more for the reason of keeping your head from scraping against something at speed than for a sudden stopAnd no i would not wear a helmet in my car, as i think the chances of it being useful to me are as great as winning the lotterySeatbelts however have saved my life and kept me from being thrown from a rolling Ford Bronco and i will wear those because i do see the usefulness of them.
