Question:

What kind of water pump should I get?

I have a small stream by my backyard where my garden is and I want to use that water so I will need a pump with a hose attachment. What kind of water pump will I need to get for this?

Answer:

Go to sears and get a shallow well pump that has a foot valve and runs on 115vac perhaps a 1.5 hp ..if the head(the uphill part plus the pipe loss ) gets to great you might need a lager hp but a 1.5 with a 25 ft of head should give 9gpm at 40 psi . Oh yes is this is a closed system be sure an get a high pressure cut off switch..they are real cheap... from the E..

As the water may contain foreign matter like sand, weeds , organics of other types you need a pump with a centrifugal impeller. depend on the height of lift, volume of flow and the head pressure needed to overcome friction loss will determine the size needed . A small sump pump type unit may work but they need to be immersed fully for cooling the motor.
