proabably not youd need a very hot flame to get the copper to the tempature you need it to be. on top of that youd need extremely well insulated gloves to do something like this you can be burned very easily
Copper is fine to heat, there should not be any harmful fumes, especially for that limited duration. Do not heat galvanized steels, they are the worst thing you have laying around your house as far as steel goes.
