Question:

What other damages does a melted wiring harness do to the car?

Does it damage the engine, alternator and battery?

Answer:

If a car had its wiring harness melt, that means that the wire had a higher than normal resistance in it which was most likely caused by a malfunction. The resistance caused the wire to overheat. Depending on where the malfunction originated, the other electrical components of the car may or may not be damaged. If there was a short circuit in between the battery and the individual circuits on the car, they may have been exposed to the short circuit as well, possibly causing damage. However, if the short circuit did not cause all the wires in the car to melt, that means that the damage will be confined to circuitry in between the battery and individual circuits, such as a fuse box.
When a rookie get involved in car maintenance, then there starts the problem. Eg.To remove the water pump the rookie would not have proper tools . To swap a alternator the rookie would not disconnect the battery, so while connecting the cables should short the fuse. Then the rookie would like the know why it happened.
Depending on what caused it, a cooked wiring harness will not harm the engine, but could be a sign the alternator and battery have been damaged. The thing is, anything connected to it could be damaged too. Radio, sensors, gauges, lights, ECM, etc.
LETTING YOUR CAR IDLE FOR 15 MIN OR MORE COULD THAT CAUSE WIRING HARNESS TO MELT?
