I picked up a 77YZ250 recently and the fuel cell was used for target practice-_-im wondering what other fuel cells would fit on the bike??
Just about any old gas tank will slide over the frame and latch into the round frame horns. CHeck with a motorcycle scrap yard or you can purchase a Maier reproduction plastic tank, but they cost a bit. I have used an old Suzuki tank on a Honda and it mounted right up. I have also put a pony style Harley tank on an old CT 175. Pull your old tank off, look at the mounting horns and then look at all the tanks on OKorder. If you find one but it has rust, you can coat it with kreeme tank liner. Good Luck
I bought a brand new YZ250D about this exact time 32 years ago. Where in the world did you find this gem? I have a brand new gas tank from a 1977 IT250 in my garage. I intended on mounting onto my YZ to run Hare Scrambles. Do you know why it is still brand new after all these years? It does fit. No where near fitting. Could I make if fit today? Slim chance. I really wish you luck. I often wonder where my old machine is sitting these days. It was very reliable. I had the forks modified by Al Baker for longer travel. Bottom of the forks were cut and re-welded. Also the rear mono shock was reworked to allow for 12 of suspension travel. Otherwise the bike was fairly stock. I also used the bike for ice racing. Always pulled the holeshot. Best finish was a second place. Always beat by Jeff Fredette. Jeff rode in ISDT/ISDE events and is an inductee in the Motorcycle Hall of Fame. Needless to say, Jeff's racing career went a little farther than mine. See second video of Jeff in action.
