Question:

What processor is better intel i7 990x extreme edition vs amd bulldozer fx8170?

Which one do you guys think will win the intel one has 6 cores while the amd has 8.

Answer:

The FX-8170p isn't coming out until this winter. By then it will go up against the Core i7-3960x... and the FX will probably be screwed. IDK No one really knows. AMD is trying like mad to make the FX processor faster than any Core i7 processor on the planet. I heard they're had to raise the clock speeds up quite a bit to do that. So, that isn't a good sign. The FX-8150p will be the flagship processor at launch.
see which process is newer because what companies do is hop each other whoever is last to put one out is usually better then the one who put one out before it
8 cores what help at all for gaming so the i7 990x will probably beat it for that. but for video rendering I think the bulldozer might win for that. All around the 990x is better.
The FX chipset that AMD is about to release is actually trying to compete with the sandy bridge 2nd generation processor. The i7 990x is current in a class of it's own. Productivity wise the 990x should beat the 8 core AMD chip because it's hyperthreaded. So it has 12 threads running in contrast with AMD's 8 threads. Gaming wise you shouldn't see significant improvement over a regular i5 2500k because most games don't run on more than 4 cores.
