Question:

What processor should I get?

My gaming computer is able to play many games at max settings but recently, as games get more advanced, i have been getting the need to upgrade my rig. The first thing that must change is the AMD dual core at 2.8ghz. My question is, should I be getting the AMD 955 3.2ghz quad core? Buy something Intel (but would mean i need to switch my mobo too)? Or wait till AMD releases the bulldozer series and the 955 will go down in value, at which point i can buy a cheaper 955?

Answer:

Switch to Intel Extreme Edition if you're high on budget or else some core-i7 sandy bridge processor would be the best choice. Intel is far better than AMD. Better get a Intel Processor.
Depends, I'd wait on the release of Bulldozer, ASUS and Gigabyte are already advertising that some of their current socket AM3 motherboards are Bulldozer compatible with only a BIOS flash.
Your processor is an 8/10 AMD (more suitable Micro-instruments) processors are low fee and that they use much less battery skill than Intel. Intel processors on the different hand, %. a bigger punch and function a somewhat extra suitable FSB (front part Bus) than AMD. AMD Turion sixty 4 X2 TL-50 is such as the Intel center 2 Duo E4000 (approximate) My opinion: in case you choose max battery lifestyles, bypass with AMD; in case you choose skill, bypass with Intel
But since gaming is still mostly GPU-driven and going with Intel adds the cost of a mobo (and operating system if you're currently running an OEM version), that's not cost-effective compared to just upgrading your CPU. Upgrading to a 3.2Ghz Phenom II X4 955 would be a significant boost over a 2.8Ghz X2, but I'd agree with waiting until after Bulldozer if that's your planned move.
You probably could put a quad core in that motherboard, not sure as i dont know what mobo you have. But a new videocard would probably be the most helpful
