1/2 of a psi is all the pressure needed to test natural gas line. that amount of pressure will still be slightly above the natural gas operaing pressure. Paste is good, some people like tape I like paste whatever. Get the joints pretty tight without killing yourself, If you feel like your giving yourself a workout tightening the pipe its plenty tight. The only places I run into leaks with my stuff would be a piece that I threaded myself, the pre-cut nipples and the fittings I really never have trouble with just the custom cut and threaded - if thats what you have you'll re-thread the piece so it makes a better usually deeper thread.
