I live in a very windy area and when tied to the bitter cold winters things can be miserable. What is the best winter apparel to have in these conditions in terms of clothing materials, brands, etc. Basically, how do I stay warm?!
Think layers and windproof. You can invest in a multi-layered coat providing an inner insulation coat and an outer waterproof coat. An alternative is to buy a fleece and wear this with an outer waterproof item such as a kagool.
Get yourself the best outer shell jacket you can afford - like one from the North Face or Patagonia. You want it to be seriously wind, rain, snow and ugly weather proof. Under that, throw on a fleece sweater and you'll be good to go for most conditions. If you're still cold, put on a thermal long sleeve shirt beneath the fleece. The nice thing about having a jacket that doesn't have its own insulation is that you can layer appropriately for all conditions.
