Question:

What's the difference between a Couch and a Sofa?

Never really understood that... is there really a difference? or just 2 diff names....

Answer:

around here the difference is...... if you take a run and leap onto it, it's a couch..... if you wouldn't DARE do that, it's a sofa..... your dad naps on the couch .... mom would hurt him if he tried that on the sofa...... one buys a sofa with the intent of keeping it for YEARS, but usually finds it boring after a while..... one buys a couch for it's 'comfortablilty' and it breaks your heart when it has to go.... Grampa plays with the little ones by tossing them onto a couch..... Grandma teaches tea party etiquette to the little gals while sitting daintily on the sofa..... figure on the couch being in the den and the sofa being in the living room....
2 words for the same object, that's not uncommon. Usually people speaking the same language but from different part of their country (south vs. north for example) or different part of the world could use different word. See the reference below. Unfortunately they don't say anything about Australia, only UK :-)
They are the same. A couch seats 3 or more people. The 1 that seats 2 people is called a love seat.
i do not agree that it is two names for the same thing i always thought a sofa was a smaller couch like a two person one but a couch is like a 4+ person thing
its just that they are 2 different names...well i guess a couch is like a little bigger and a sofa is like 2 people thing
