Question:

What to do when a person is on fire?

What is the appropriate thing to do when a person is on fire? I hope I am never placed in this situation, but I am just curious as to what the proper procedures are in this situation. Thanks for your answers.

Answer:

Lightning is nothing more than electric current that is meant to be grounded. There are houses with things such as a lightning rod that conduct the current and ground it. No matter the case, it's important to stay away from windows, unplug all electrical devises, and avoid contact with water and metal. It sounds like your house could stand up to some fairly strong winds. Few thunderstorms ever produce a tornado. For those that do, most produce a weak, short-lived tornado. I don't know the typical middle and upper level patterns of the atmosphere in the Middle East, thus I can't say how much support there is for tornado development. However, I will tell you that you should be prepared. If a tornado occurs while you are at your house, find a room with no windows and take cover. I can't do anything about your brother's fears, but I can tell you that knowledge is power and can be the deciding factor between life and death. I give you my best wishes to you all.
The only alarm found in SOLAS and LSA is the General Alarm, which consists of 7 short plus one long. The logic here is that whatever one is engaged with the reaction upon hearing this alarm is to proceed to muster station. However, it has become accepted practice to use this alarm signal for abandonship. The other commonly used alarm is the fire alarm, which is continuous ringing of ship s alarm bell. Since there is no is legislated alarm except the general alarm some shipowners and flags are free to design their own alarms for the various emergency situations on board ship.
