And how difficult is this should I just do it myself. Haven't seen the car yet just bought it.I Have only worked on modern vehicles is this still a twelve volt system. Thanks.
Yes, your system is based on twelve volts. Painless Wiring makes a darn good reproduction wiring harness for your vehicle. This job is not a difficult one if you take your time. If I were to do it for you, I would charge you 5.0 hours and a twelve pack of beer (after the job was done of course. LOL) at $45/hour. There are only three or four main connectors to worry about. If the original harnesses are in place, this job should be relatively easy for you. You will have to remove all of the interior furniture to make the job easier. Route the new harnesses in the same locations as the original. Again, just take your time and enjoy the feeling of accomplishment after it is done. I replaced the entire wiring harnesses on my 1966 GTO, and the job was not so bad. The forward lamp harness and the fuse block were the worst part, but everything fell into place after my stress levels lowered. Good luck, take your time, and have fun. Oh yeah, check out a co. named Detroit Iron. They may have the original manuals for your vehicle, including wire harness routing and schematics on cd.
This should be a 12 volt system but I could be wrong. A lot of people had their 6 volt systems changed to 12 volt. It really doesn't matter which system cause they will look the same. One thing is the car will have a generator not an alternator. If its a generator it will look like a starter motor. On the conversions most people put in an alternator with an integral voltage regulator to minimize the wiring. Also 3 battery caps is a 6 volt and 6 caps is a 12 volt. Good Luck.
SGT, which wiring harness? The one from the firewallout or the body harness? Most aftermkt harnesses are color coded, unplug and plug back in for the one from the firewall out. Now the body harness, oh well, same as new cars and that requires removing everything down the L/S of the car's outside parts just like a newer car. And , yes, they are a 12 volt system but are DC instead of AC on the alternator / generator unless they have been changed over. Just wait till ya have to tune it up, now that is the experience of a lifetime!! Carb adj, dwell, point and plug gap and timing. Old school, but any Old School around ya
I just had a harness put in my mopar. They don,t make an after market one except for painlessI,ve used the painless before and let me tell you there is nothing painless about itYour car is popularI,m sure there are more than a few that make one for your rideIt,s an easy thing to doYou can do it yourself.
the distinction is that the hardtop has no body around the window of the door and the quarter window. even as both homestead windows are rolled down, there is no positioned up in between the front and rear homestead windows. On a positioned up, or sedan, there's a metal body that encloses the homestead windows and promises a music for them.
