Is there a nut on the end you are trying to remove? Is the piping white plastic? Are you sure it even comes apart? It sounds like a PVC solvent weld joint, and this is glued together. If this is the case, be very careful, as PVC gets brittle with age, and you could end up breaking the pipe. If the pipe isn't white, is it chrome plated? It might be chrome plated brass tubular pipe, with a solder joint at the point of connection protruding from the wall. This will require a plumber to remove. I would suggest you hire a plumber to replace either of these type piping with compression type fittings. They are more user friendly. Good luck!
