Question:

What would happen if a strong magnet fell through a copper pipe in space?

I know that eddy currents affect strong magnets in copper pipes and slows their fall down here on earth. but what if we put a strong magnet through a copper pipe in space? Would it be possible to design a copper pipe so that the magnet will float and stay in one place (instead of move from side to side which I think is what would happen in space)?

Answer:

Copper and aluminum are no longer magnetic, so the magnet in basic terms turns right into a mass. If the pipes incorporate the comparable fabric, the magnet will fall on the comparable velocity. extreme college point: gadgets fall on the comparable velocity, in spite of the mass of the gadgets.
Some help. What effect does gravitational field have on speed of magnet?
