Iron ore heated in the presence of charcoal. The oxygen and carbon form a gas. Iron is the product.

the answer should be along the lines of: 2FeO + C CO2 + 2Fe Where Iron ore would most likely be oxidized (rusty) FeO and charcoal is most likely Carbon(C). the gas produced would most likely be carbon dioxide or monoxide. and just blance it out gives you 2 moles of iron ore and and 2 moles of iron. been awhile since ive taken chem but this is to the best of my memory. hope it helped Edit: supposing carbon monoxide was the gas being formed then there should be no need for the 2 moles of FeO, CO and Fe. the equation wouldnt be balanced unless you added 2 moles of carbon
