im chemistry i have to find the thickness of different brands of aluminum foil.... i have a balance and was able to get the mass. i have its length and width. but how can i get the thickness from only knowing those 3 things
A piece of aluminum foil is well modeled as a rectangular prism. The volume of a rectangular prism is equal to the product of its height, width, and length. V = w*l*h You know the width and length, and need to find the height. You therefore need to calculate the volume. You know the mass of the piece of foil, and you can look up the density of aluminum, 2.70g/cm^3. Density is equal to mass divided by volume: d = m/V From this equation, you can find the volume, which you can then plug into the first equation to get the height. Hope this helps.
