i don't know about other countries but in persian legends we have the flag of kaviyan kaveh was a smith who revolted against zahak(the king) and set a leather to a pike and made the first flag ....the next king(Freudian) set gold, diamonds,and stuff to that leather .... before islam the flag of iran was a long black leather and every king added some gold or silver to it
The usage of flags spread from India and China, where they were almost certainly invented, to neighboring Burma, Siam, and southeastern Asia. During the peak of the age of sail, beginning in the early 17th century, it has been customary (and later a legal requirement) for ships to carry flags designating their nationality; these flags eventually evolved into the national flags and maritime flags of today.
