basically it is to keep the heat in on your hair while the dye is beginning to process, meaning the colour will come out alot more vibrant and last longer! However you don't have to use foil, I personally use 1 single plastic bag while dye is on apply some heat if necessary with a hair dryer and then simple bin when I am finishedPractical, easy and works a treat
