Unfortunately, I think you have to chalk this up to experience. You paid her money just to end it, consider it money well spent. The amount of money is too small to interest a lawyer in your case. You could put together your own case and take the property owners (not the manager) to small claims court and maybe a judge would take pity on you, however I think that you should file it in the cabinet of your life experiences and move on.
I think you should take her to small claims court. You have something called renters rights. to find out more call the local housing authority in your area. You were smart to take pictures etc.. keep dates and such to prove that all of this happened to you. She owes you money. Sadly you didn't have her sign off on the apartment stating it was in acceptable condition when you moved out. Had you done that she wouldn't be able to try to collect. You sound young. Do yourself a favor from know on. get everything in writing. pursue this *****. don't let her get away with what she did to you and your family. Pick up the phone and start calling for help.
