Question:

Where are the attachment points for an engine hoist 'chain' to remove the engine from 2003 ford ranger 3.0L

The 'books' say to attach the chain to the engine lifting brackets, but are these actually on the engine somewhere. I'm not seeing them. I will probably just remove a few bolts and replace them with my own and the chain attached to it.

Answer:

there is usually on one lift loop on the engine. if there is one you will clearly see it on the top of the motor. for the other end of your chain, just use an existing bolt hole in the block. if you are using chain, make sure it is not up against the intake manifold as the manifold could crack when the chain tightens. you can use wood blocks between the chain and the engine to achieve clearance. the best thing to use is a lifting strap. they are similar to very thick seat belt material and are used to lift and move heavy cargo on loading docks.
Engine Hoist Chain
If you don't have these plates/hooks, buy two bolts 1.5 to 2 longer than the intake bolts, stick them through the chain or plate if you've got a Cool Guy hoist, at opposite front and rear corners. I can't remember how many motors I have pulled in this manner.
yep if you dont see any lift loops then thats how ya do it.... some do have them you cant really miss them if they are there most offen right front corner and left back
