I‘m traveling to Italy for Christmas to visit my girlfriend for a few weeks, We are spending 9 days in Italy and 7 in Ireland. We are having trouble deciding where we want to stay for Christmas eve and Christmas day. We are looking for somewhere pretty quaint, a cozy town with a strong Christmas feel to it, so we have been looking in the Dolomite Region in northeastern Italy (the val gardena valley possibly).Does anyone have any recommended towns, cities, villages, etc that we should consider visiting or staying at? Being college students we aren‘t looking to spend money on skiing, but ski resorts are still a possibility!Thank you for your help!
i live in italy in the north of italy. so you can go in Folgaria (trentino) . alpe di susi (near Austria and germany) . asiago . tre cime di lavaredo (look at the picture on the net) u can visit some cities like trento (in a day you visit it) or verona or venice (1 or 2 days) you MUST to go to Garda lake it's fantastic. you said that you want to go to val gardena valle aurina is better have a nice holiday
The whole region is very Christmassy, though unless you go high up it's possible that it won't snow. Bassano del Grappa, Spilimbergo, Feltre are all beautiful little cities, Cortina is more of a ski resort and Bolzano is a bit of a bigger city - it really depends on what you're looking for. Remember that many hotels don't cook a Christmas lunch, and if you want to stay in a restaurant if you have to book on time (I'd say end of November). As for skiing, yes, it is expensive - but cross country skiing and snowshoes are affordable, so give it a try. However, with snowshoes be careful and stay on marked trails.
