Answer:
I tend to favor Vanna's Choice yarn, as it is not too expensive as far as yarn goes and feels super soft once you have it crochetThe Red Hear yarn has a special branch that is labeled soft or something similar, it works ok for larger things like blankets that you don't want to be too rough, but still can't spend a fortune onAll baby weight yarn works, many bamboo yarns (though you will pay an arm ad a leg for it), and the non-synthetic, or only partially synthetic yarnsSuch as alpacaWool yarns you should stay away from unless you can stand the itch or need something super softAcrylic will be the cheapest but also the roughest, you do get what you pay forI would recommend going to places like salvation armyI have found many nice yarns int heir scrap bags, you have to buy sever skeins you don't like to get the good ones thoughAlso check Michaels and joannes for salesOther than that I just say run your hands over the samples they have at many larger stores, and if you dig your hand into the ball of yarn slightly you can get a feel for how soft it will be when you do a project(The poor quality yarn/rough yarn will make hats go into weird shapes, I hadn't realised that at first either )
You can get freezer paper at the grocery store, or WalMart, it's in the section with the plastic wrap and aluminum foilBubble Jet Set is probably available at your local fabric shop, or hobby shop, like Hobby LobbyEBay also has bubble Jet Set for a reasonable priceI use regular Downy Ultra instead, soak the fabric, shake off the excess, and let dry.
Try bamboo or baby yarnJust feel them when you buy them.
Ask your local yarn shop for alternative yanrsIt is no good us reccommending a yarn you cannot buy locallyWorstead weight refers to the thickness of the yarnAlpaca and wool are animals whose fleece the yarn is made from.

I recently figured out which yarns to get, so I am here to help! lolRed heart isn't that soft, as you know now, so I wouldn't get that unless you're planning on making flowers or afghans and what not, but bernat is good and definitely wool-ease! They are super soft! And I just made a slouchy beret out of Hometown USA yarn, it's very chunky though so you'll need big needles to knit with thatAny baby yarn (it should usually say on the front if it's baby yarn, or it'll have a picture of a baby lol) is soft and works wellHope this helped, I don't know much about yarn either and I've been knitting for 6 months lol, but I know that bernat is good, and so is wool-ease (very warm), especially for winter! :) Good luck!
